Zac Efron is Jonny Quest

Our favorite little Simon is going to appear as Jonny Quest, the script by Dan Mazeau has been drawing some buzz in Hollywood. Obviously the casting is going to ramp up Jonny’s age a bit (he was 11 in the series) and 21-year-old Zac can pull of 17, but 11 is a bit of a stretch.

For you Whedon fans who may not know the 1960s cult animated show – Jonny Quest was produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions, and created and designed by comic book artist Doug Wildey, about a boy who accompanies his father on extraordinary adventures.

It’ll be interesting to see another animated show get made for film, but reportedly Warner Brothers is thinking of renaming the film so people don’t dismiss it ala Speed Racer. I say if the script is good enough, no one is going to dismiss it.

As for Zac? I for one welcome his stepping out of Disney and into main street acting. I forsee a lot of great things in the future. And, having a fanbase that started out as tweens and are only growing along with his career can’t hurt.

I bet you were thinking Friday is just Dollhouse day, but oh no, this Friday sees the release of 17 Again starring Michelle Trachtenberg (better known as Dawn on Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Zac Efron (known to us as Little Simon on Firefly). 17 Again is a comedy about a guy whose life didn’t quite turn out how he wanted it to and wishes he could go back to high school and change it. He wakes up one day and is seventeen again and gets the chance to rewrite his life.
